Twelve city guides, one rule: if it can't be sourced, it isn't published.
Who writes this
The city guides on Stump Removal Service are written and maintained by Max Baumgarten, founder of the service. Max is not an arborist and doesn't claim to be one — the pages don't rest on personal authority, they rest on the published record: what city codes actually say, what 811 centers actually require, what contractors actually publish as prices. Corrections are welcome at info@stumpremovalservice.com and get fixed with a dated update.
The three rules
Every figure has a source
Price ranges, permit rules, 811 deadlines, soil and species data come from published material: city and county codes, state 811 centers, USDA-NRCS soil surveys, university extension services, and contractor price sheets. A typical city page draws on 30+ published sources.
Gaps stay visible
Where no local figure could be verified, the page says so — surcharges without published prices show "not published", and cities without verified local totals are labeled with national ranges until real local quotes exist. No number on this site is invented to fill a hole.
Updates are dated
Every city page carries its last-updated date and the number of sources behind it. When rules or prices change, the page changes — and the date with it.
